The boys JV Sharks fell to visiting West Florence in the region opener. The West Florence Knights came out firing on all cylinders. They hit three 3’s in the first quarter to take an 11-5 lead after the first quarter. The Knights upped the pressure in the second quarter and outscored the Sharks 10-2. The Sharks trailed 21-7 at the end of the first half. The Sharks rebounded in the third quarter and finally started to hit some shots and play with a sense of urgency. The Sharks swung the momentum and trailed 27-20 after three quarters. The Sharks continued to battle and eventually cut the lead to 27-25 with just a couple of minutes remaining. The Sharks had the ball with a chance to take the lead, but a three-point attempt by Cam Tibbits fell short and the Sharks never got that close again. The Knights hit free throws down the stretch to close the game out. Once again, the Sharks never gave up and continued to battle until the final whistle; however, the Sharks eventually fell 38-31 to a very solid West Florence team in their very first 5A region game. The Sharks were led by Dillon Haire with 15 points. Freshman Marcus Hawkins-Alston provided an excellent spark off the bench with 5 points, Justin Bailey added 4 points, Ari Shklyar added 3 points, and Joey Parisi and Cam Tibbits added 2 points apiece. The Sharks will look to get back on the winning track on Tuesday as they host the visiting Conway Tigers.
