St James High School
The JV Sharks traveled the short distance down the road to take on their rival the Socastee Braves in the Battle of 707. The Braves started strong on defense and caused all kinds of problems for the Sharks. The scored was tied 7-7 after one, but the Braves continued their relentless defense on the Sharks and led 18-10 at the half. The Sharks regrouped in the locker room and turned up their intensity. They jumped on the Braves early and often in the second half. They took the third quarter 14-8, but still trailed by 2 going into the fourth. The Sharks continued to shoot themselves in the foot, shooting only 10 for 19 from the free throw line, but they played unselfish basketball in the fourth and pulled out the win by a final of 40-33. The Sharks were led by Mike Herrin with 14 points. Jeremiah Nesbitt finished with 9 points, Candido Ortiz-Robles II and Deondray Stanfield had 6, and Randy Smith contributed 4 points. The 5-0 JV Sharks will look to regain top form when they travel to Aynor next Thursday.
