This weekend the Boys Track and Field team travelled to York High School for the 4A Qualifier track meet. The wind was blowing and the rain fell but that didnât stop the Sharks from turning in some impressive results.
Trey Myers had a look of determination in his eye the whole 4 ½ hour bus ride and when he stepped on the track for his first race of the day he did not disappoint. First up was the 110 meter hurdles and going into his heat Trey was ranked 2nd. The gun sounded and Trey fired out of the blocks beating everyone to the first hurdle and from that moment he just ran away with the race winning his heat with ease. His 15.74 places him 4th going into next weekendâs finals. You could say Trey was pumped up for the 400 hurdles but that would be an understatement. From the sound of the gun Trey left everyone behind him and cruised to an easy 54.66 which was the fastest time posted. Trey goes into the finals ranked number 1. After placing 2nd last year by just 14 hundredths of a second Trey says nothing will stand in his way of that state championship.
The Cubs coming back from down 3-1 wasnât as big a surprise as Chris Anderson making placing 7th in the pole-vault and securing himself a spot in the state final next weekend. Chris is the quintessential example of hard work and determination paying off. Just 7 months after breaking his leg Chris vaulted himself over 11 feet in wet and windy conditions. Never complains, never makes excuses just gets up and goes to work every day, Chris didnât just place 7th he earned it. Next weekend Chris says âThat school record is his.â To break the school record Chris will have to vault over 11â6â.
Spring Valley High School in Columbia South Carolina is the venue for next weekendâs SCHSL 4A State Finals. If you are looking for an exciting Saturday come on out and cheer on these Sharks as they make history.
